Project summary

MMC -  Yanqul Tailing and Sitewide Water Mgmt Design Services - Oman -2025

Mazoon Mining Company LLC (MMC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Minerals Development Oman (MDO) and
holds the lease to a significant massive sulphide copper/ gold concession (370 km2) within the Wilayat of Yanqul
in Al Dhahirah Governorate. The concession includes five existing open cut copper mines, with the company
proposing to re-commission the workings, construct and operate a 1.65 million tonne per annum (mtpa) 1copper
project.  The Main objective of this project is to design the tailing storage facility and provide the side-wide flood protection, Wadi diversions, and stormwater drainage around the assets as per the local and global mining standards. Project activities: 

  • Develop a comprehensive hydrological study, including the rainfall analysis, Wadi flows estimate, and define the level of the flood risk.
  • Develop hydrological and hydraulic models in 1D and 2D to define the flood extents according to different design events up to the PMF (probability of maximum Flood) event.
  • Conduct a hydraulic model calibration and validation based on the actual recorded rainfall and flow rates.
  • Coordination with global mining teams, including the flood management and TSF design team, to ensure that the proposed design is up to the global standards.
  • Led the detailed design and guide the local team to ensure the design quality and ensure it is upto standards.

Al Ula - Sharaan Resort 1  Detailed Design - 2022/2024

The project is located at the Kingdom of Saudi western side and northwest AL ULA region on average area 10.5 km2. The resort area is sandwiched between mountains and escarpments with high permeable sandy soil. When rainfall occurs, hill torrents run over the surface of the steep slopes into well-defined valleys creating streams and wadis which flow into natural ponding areas within the project area. The Resort, the International Summit Centre and the Private Villas are all carved into the rock. While, the Utility Centre buildings are located either North or South of the Resort rock and consist of technical rooms and back-of-house rooms. The objective is to propose a drainage scheme that follows the natural geographical pattern and the existing conditions as much as possible.  Project Activities: 

  • Developed a comprehensive hydrological assessment for the site-wide.
  • Developed the detailed design for the overall drainage and flood protection scheme.
  • Lead and support the 2D model build and run on TUFLOW model for the external catchments around the assets.
  • Extensive coordination with building and infrastructure teams to ensure the design feasibility within the mountainous and valley areas.
  • Developed Naviswork models for BIM coordination and clash detection.

Umm Al-Amad - Professional Consultancy Services for Umm Ebairiya, Umm Slal Ali and Umm Al-Amad - Qatar - 2022/2024.

The overall project area is approximately 1,492 ha and is spread across three districts namely Umm Ebairiya, Umm Slal Ali, Umm Al-Amad, including 14.3km connecting roads from Umm Slal Ali and Umm Ebairiya to Bu Hesayya and Al Mazrooah. Ashghal, the Public Works Authority (PWA), intends to upgrade, design and construct full Roads & Infrastructure for Umm Ebairiya, Umm Slal Ali & Umm Al-Amad areas. Project Activities: 

  • Led the 2D model build and run on Infowrks ICM for 700 km2 external catchments.
  • Developed the overall external flood protection strategy and guided the team to develop the detailed design.
  • Engaged in workshops, prepared presentations, and discussed the design with the client.
  • Reviewed the design drawings, and maps.

Etihad Rail - Etihad Rail Design  Review Programme - UAE - 2019/2022

The Etihad Rail Network comprises a proposed railway network, which will link freight facilities and passenger stations, to form a part of the planned Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) rail network. It will run from the border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), at Ghweifat in the West, via (or close to) the cities of the Gulf coast, to the Northern Emirates and the East coast. There will also be a rail line branching off from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain, with an intended connection into the Sultanate of Oman. Project Activities:

  • Led the design review program Management for the drainage and stormwater management packages.
  • Preparations for client audits and visits.

SKB - Sharjah and Khalidiya Bridge Detailed Design - 2018/2019

The project area is situated within the city of Sharjah along the existing Al Arouba Street, starting at the North side, where a 2 km road is widened from existing two lanes to three lanes straight through Jubail Interchange, Sharjah Bridge, Flag Island and Al Montazah Park, Khalidiya Bridge, and Khalidiya Interchange. The Flag Island and Al Montazah Park accesses are developed by utilizing loop ramps connected through a proposed underpass. The project complexity can be summarized in providing stormwater drainage schemes existing inland and island areas. The project has existing utilities that serve the existing developments. Several structures require a drainage strategy in the project, such as bridges, underpass, and pedestrian bridges. Project activities: 

  • Led the design teams in Dubai & Sharjah.
  • Developed an alternative and upgrade to the existing drainage scheme.
  • Proposed diversions for the existing utilities.
  • Developed the hydrology analysis, hydrology modelling and hydraulic design modelling.
  • Coordination with other disciplines such as Roads, Marine, MEP. etc.

Um Al Quwain Canal -  Infrastructure master plan - UAE - 2018

The vision for the Umm Al Quwain Canal Development is to create a world-class inland waterway that will link the Arabian Gulf with the Umm Al Quwain Lagoon, snaking across the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain. The 7.5 km Canal will be accessible to the public, with walkways and green areas along its entire length. Retail, restaurants, and key tourism destinations are proposed to be strategically located along its route. The Canal will be navigable by yachts, up to 30 m in width and will hold internal marinas to receive residents and visiting boats. Total development area 600 ha. Project activities:

  • Participated in the infrastructure design including storm drainage network and groundwater control network design, foul sewerage networks design, irrigation network and potable Water Network design.
  • Preparation of drawings and required documents.

MBR – Dubai Hills Estate Detailed Design and Supervision - UAE -2017/2018

Design and site supervision services for the construction of the MBR – Dubai Hills Estate in Dubai. The scope of work includes all of the infrastructure necessary for the development of the mixed-used masterplan through to construction. Project activities:

Dubai land Utilities Master Plan Development Design and Supervision - UAE - 2017

Dubai land Project is one of the largest urban development projects in the world. It is planned to be the Middle East leisure and entertainment hub and a world-class tourist attraction. Dubai land will be built on an area of 27,000 hectares, and the final phase is scheduled for completion between 2022 -2025. The project is planned to entertain and amuse 15 million tourists a year. Dubai land project includes the largest shopping malls in the world, Bawadi entertainment project with its class 5 star hotels, indoor ski slopes, golf courses and other sport stadiums, theme park, water amusement park, multi-cultural garden complex, the largest Zoo in the Middle East, different classes of residential and commercial areas, and many other facilities. Project activities: 

  • Led the detailed design for hydrology and storm drainage systems for sustainable urban designs (SUDS), including the design of swales, bio-retention basins, detention ponds, conveying riprap channels, and retention ponds.

Desert Rose - Smart Satellite City for National Housing - UAE - 2016/2017 

The Desert Rose is a unique mega project. It is a smart, sustainable satellite city settlement to house 160,000 inhabitants, including 75% national Emiratis and 25% expatriates. The project concept was adopted, and financial recourses were committed for immediate implementation in stages by 2020 (AED 20 billion were committed for Desert Rose mega project and other smaller DM projects).
The project site covers approximately 3,760 hectares. It is generally desert land between 35 m to 80 m above sea level. It is surrounded by DEWA high-tension electric network, the proposed Ittihad railway, and Al Ruwiyah orchards. Possible access to the Site can be achieved via Emirates Road and Hatta Road. Project activities: 

  • Led the detailed design for hydrology and storm drainage systems for sustainable urban designs (SUDS), including the design of swales, bio-retention basins, detention ponds, conveying riprap channels, and retention ponds.
  • Engaged in workshops with the client and authorities.
  • Preparation of plans, technical specifications, and BOQs for SUDS systems.

Phase 4- The Center of Doha City - Concept Design Of Roads/ Infrastructure - Qatar - 2015/2016

Providing Roads and Infrastructure design including Storm Drainage Network, Groundwater Control Network, Foul Sewerage Networks, Existing Storm Water Relocation, Geotechnical Investigations and Environmental Impact Assessment. Also, preparation of drawings and documents. The project includes 28 kilometers of roads and a catchment area of 3,382 hectares. Project activities: 

  • Prepared a detailed design for hydrology and storm drainage system.
  • Prepared the technical plans, Evaluation of existing structures on the integrated Infowork CS master plan.
  • Engaged in the workshops with the client and authorities.

Development of Roads and Infrastructure in Al-Khor City Programme - Qatar - 2013/2015

  • Developed a drainage system that caters for an urban catchment of an area of about 1200 hectares using apositive system, and protection against surface water flow from external catchment of an area of about 700 hectares; Services include Stormwater drainage collection system and associated pumping stations and evaporation pond in addition to a study of the groundwater lowering system.
  • Preparation of a detailed design for the hydrology and storm drainage system.
  • Preparation of the technical plans, evaluation of existing structures on the integrated Infowork CS master plan.
  • Prepare technical specifications, and coordinate with the client.

Development of Roads and Infrastructure in Al-Shamal City - Qatar - 2013/2015

  • Developed a drainage system that caters an urban catchment of an area of about 914 hectares using the positive system, and protection against surface water flow from external catchment of an area of about 939 hectares; Services include Stormwater drainage collection system and associated pumping stations and evaporation pond in addition to astudy of the groundwater lowering system.

Asir & El-Bahah Housing Projects, Flood Protection and Stormwater Drainage - KSA - 2012/2013

Design and studies for Flood Mitigation master plans of North Abha, one of the Assir housing project in Saudi Arabia. The project is located 15 km north of Abha city, 22 km North-West of Khamis Mushayt City, and lies east of road 15 with a total area exceeding 5.5 km² Project Activities: 

  • Developed a hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, including the design of bridges and culverts.

Designed the stormwater drainage system, and calculated peak discharges for the storm events that are impacting the project area. 

Identified and analyzed the capacity of existing and proposed hydraulic structures. 

  • Preparation of the package documents that include the study approach, methods, results, findings, BOQ, and conclusions.

Rafha Flood Mitigation Master Plan - KSA - 2012

Design and studies for Flood Mitigation master plans of Rafha,   the second largest city in the Northern Borders Province in the Kingdom of   Saudi Arabia. The project area encompasses 72,187 inhabitants with a total   area exceeding 8600 km². Project activities: 

  • Developed the hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, including the design of bridges and culverts.
  • Developed the design of a stormwater drainage system, and calculation peak discharges for the storm events that are impacting the project area.
