During my internship at G42 Healthcare, I underwent extensive training in various departments, gaining valuable insights into laboratory operations and procedures. Here are the highlights of my training:

Health and Safety and Infection Control:

• Experienced comprehensive training in health and safety protocols, including fire safety and HAZMAT management.
• Noted the handling of hazards and high-risk samples in a safe manner.

Sample Management:

• Observed pre-analytical checks to ensure sample integrity and proper identification.
• Observed the utilization of laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for sample registration and tracking.
• Noted the preparation and storage of various sample types, including Buccal swabs and blood samples.

DNA Extraction Lab:

• Observed DNA extraction processes and quality control analysis.

• Sample Flow Management:
• Observed the verification of received samples and acceptance/rejection checks.

Oxford Nanopore Sequencing Lab:

• Observed library preparation protocols for ONT technology.
• Witnessed the loading of samples onto ONT flow cells and ensured proper handling.

Illumina Sequencing Lab:

• Observed pre-loading and loading procedures on NovaSeq X plus and NovaSeq 6000 sequencers.
• Noted the real-time monitoring of sequencing runs and issue resolution.

• MGI Sequencing Lab:
• Noted QC measurements using Fluoroskan instruments.
• Observed library preparation, DNA Nanoball making, and pooling processes.

As a Medical Laboratory Technician Trainee at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, I gained valuable experience in several laboratory departments, including Pre-analytics and Referral Service, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank. In addition to observational learning, I gained hands-on experience in Phlebotomy, where I learned how to properly collect patient blood samples. This experience enhanced my practical skills as a Medical Laboratory Technology Student.
