1. Perform systematic Oral Health and Risk assessments that includes , evaluating medical and dental history and perform intra and extra oral examination.

2. Formulate a dental hygiene diagnosis based on comprehensive dental and periodontal examination - identifying caries and using BOP, Plaque index, CPITN and other indices. This includes processing and interpreting radiographs.

3. Use Hospital information systems and reports for collection of data to support the diagnosis.

4. Facilitate necessary referrals to other health care providers outside the dental hygiene scope of practice.

5. Establish dental hygiene treatment plan prioritizing patient’s needs.

6. Provide preventive intervention such as fluoride application and fissure sealants.

7. Develop educational plan, select educational interventions and educational materials to meet patients’ learning needs.

8. Ensure proper Documentation of patient’s examination and treatment details in the available data systems.

9. Evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented clinical therapy and learning activities using measurable criteria and provide recommendations in regards to patients’ ongoing care.

10. Provide therapeutic (non-surgical periodontal treatment) and supportive clinical therapy to eliminate and/or control local etiological factor that contributes to the patients’ oral health.

11. Provide nutritional and tobacco cessation counseling.

12. Assess the oral health needs of the community and provide community oral health services in a variety of settings along with promoting the values of oral health and wellness in the community.

13. Participate in Child Health sessions in the Dental department as scheduled by assessing the children aged 6 months to 6 years, provide oral health education for parents and children, do necessary referrals to other healthcare practitioners and dispense fluoride supplement or application of fluoride varnish based on the caries risk assessment.

14. Conduct career related audits and communicate the results with stakeholders to introduce change.

15. Act as a team leader for – within the unit – the Education activities such as journal clubs and case presentation.

16. Training and coaching newly employed Dental Hygienist.

17. Practice accepted infection control and patient safety procedures according to Department and International guidelines.

18. Maintain clinical inventory and instrument hand-over check as departmental procedure and reporting immediately any clinical discrepancies.

19. Perform teeth whitening.

20. Administer local anesthesia infiltration
