  • Adjust controls to generate specified electrical power.
  • Control and maintain auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, feedwater heaters, filters, and chlorinators, to supply water, fuel, lubricants, air, and auxiliary power.
  • Monitor and inspect power plant equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems.
  • Open and close Motor operated valves and switches ON/OFF of drives in sequence upon signals from field workers, in order to start or shut down auxiliary units.

SUGGESTIONS/OBSERVATIONS GIVEN FOR PLANT RELIABILITY

  • Proficient in reviewing the logics Siemens SPPA-T3000 DCS.
  • Has successfully, responded to auxiliary transformer 11KV/415V transformer trips and managed the LV side loads. Actively communicated in identifying the cause which helped in quick restoration of transformer.
  • safely restored the vacuum pump which tripped on seal water temperature high > 60 degc. During the unit start-up in bypass operation. when one pass of the condenser is in Isolation and prevented HRSG and GT trip.
  • Multiple times I have noticed the heavy Mechanical seal failure of HRSG Boiler feed water pumps” with rise in seal water temperature and one time managed to prevent forced outage of a Power block having two running Gas turbines and one steam turbine (800MW) by isolating in time the heavy seal failure pump from rest of the process in hot steam leaking conditions.
  • Multiple times I have observed the HRSG blow down pumps running dead headed and increase in the level of blow down tank, informed Shift incharge and done some temporary arrangements and avoid HRSG trip on blow down tank level high.
  • Has given suggestions on safe work practice of 11KV breakers for which there is no DCS tagout or operation control.
  • Multiple Times observed the fuel gas pressure reducing station regulator valve failure to come in service at desired setpoint.
  • Identified the CORONA effect in L1 Phase of 400KV transformer at early stage, which is having high hissing sounds and sparks inside bushing and informed to management.
  • In SPPA-T3000 DCS I have suggested and explained that the drawback of “Tag out” feature used in DCS Motor controller function block.
  • Has suggested that by closure of vacuum valves of one half of steam turbine condenser water box pass when in isolation (due to leak in water box) will be useful in raising plant MW, after doing so resulted in raise of 6 MW In steam turbine.
  • Has found out that flow direction of cooling liquid and process liquid in the plate heat exchanger of “Liquid ring vacuum pumps” are same.
  • Have observed the unobserved Heavy Lube oil leak from Gas Turbine Turning gear motor oil supply line inside front bearing compartment during start-up. Which otherwise could have resulted in unit tripif not observed and damage of bearings.
  • Have Observed the flue gas leak from running HRSG manhole covers and also HOT SPOTS on HRSG casing due gaps in the Insulation inside HRSG casing and got it rectified in shutdown.
  • Have observed the hot flue gas leak from gas turbine combustion chambers and given prior information and avoided unit trip situation on fire protection and later some external blower arrangements madeby maintenance to keep unit running.
  • And also very interested to study about existing equipment performance and finding out issues in the initial stage itself which will be very useful for Plant power augmentation and auxiliary performance improvement.
