Summary

 I have more than 7 years of practice as an independent psychiatrist. I had my psychiatric training at Abasia Hospital, Cairo, Egypt. Abasia hospital is one of the biggest (1700 bed) and most effective mental health tertiary care hospital in the Middle East region (since 1883). I have Canadian permanent residency since March 2019. I’m currently working as senior Specialist Psychiatrist in the Older Adult CAG, at Al Amal Hospital, Dubai, which is managed by Maudsley health, South London, UK. Additionally, I’m interested in health care management with an experience for more than eight years. I have MBA in health care in addition to a two-year diploma in management of NGOs.

  • I joined Al Amal hospital a few months after it’s opening.
  • I’m currently the psychiatrist manager for the Older Adult inpatient unit.
  • This give me a mix between the clinical and managerial tasks to run the word smoothly, especially in safe way during the COVID days.
  • I’m also the quality coordinator for the older adult team, and one the founder of the TMS unit in the hospital.
  • In regards of Training, I’m adjunct lecturer at the MBRU medical school for the clinical supervision of the undergraduate medical students attending our hospital for their clinical rounds of psychiatry.
  • During the last year, Al Amal hospital was the only facility providing inpatient psychiatric care for whole northern emirate.
  • It’s built on a plot of 24 acres.
  • Al Amal Hospital is a part of the ministry of health of Emirate, but It’s supervised currently by Maudsley Health, which is part of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (the Maudsley).

  • Though of the short-term duration of my work there, but It was an excellent opportunity for gaining experience in military psychiatry.
  • I was a member of the military comity for psychiatric evaluation of the veterans.
  • Management of PTSD patient was a visible part of my clinical work at this time.
  • Additionally, as a general tertiary care hospital, my work included a lot of liaison psychiatry.

  • This program was organised by the National Mental Health Council of Egypt to provide formal training for forensic psychiatry.
  • The NMHC hold the program in two centres in Cairo and Alexandria.
  • The program has two components.
  • The first component is the first theoretical lectures.
  • The 2nd part was supervised training for six months.
  • And we succeeded to implement the program for two successive years till I left the council by 2014.
