Assists the Obstetrician and the Pediatrician during labor and delivery.
Renders Essential Routine Newborn Care.
Performs Sterile Cord Dressing.
Makes assessment and observation for both healthy and sick newborns within their 24-hours of life and onwards.
Charts the patient's progress, check vital signs every hour, takes accurate intake and output every shift, report concerns and relays pertinent laboratory and diagnostic results to physicians.
Collaborates with members of the healthcare team, respects capabilities and involves teamwork.
Facilitates communication on the baby’s health to parents.
Teaches parents on how to take care for their infant in the correct manner and explains how to watch for any untoward signs and symptoms.
Maintains patient’s comfort, safety and proper hygiene.
Administers proper and due medications per doctor’s order.
Giving emergency routine care.
Carrying out Doctor’s Orders: Performing intravenous fluid insertion, changing and regulating intravenous fluids, giving initial/immediate medication and treatments with inclusive date and time.
Assisting the doctors when performing procedures like Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, Bag Valve Mask Resuscitation, Endotracheal Intubation, Chest tube thoracostomy insertion, Umbi-catheter insertion, Intravenous Insertion, Arterial Blood Gas extraction, Blood culture and sensitivity extraction, Oro-gastric tube insertion, and Suctioning.
Auscultates breath sounds and observes for signs of respiratory distress and cyanosis.
Applies breathing equipment like neonatal nasal cannula, face mask or oxygen hood.
Maintains patent airway through suctioning, proper positioning and feeding neonates with strict aspiration precaution.
Assess suckling reflex during first feedings for well babies and renders gavage feeding for the sick.
Promotes breastfeeding and early rooming – in.
Ensuring confidentiality in the NICU.
Keeps development records and observations.
Maintains completeness, cleanliness and orderliness of the area and equipment; checks expiration date of stocks and sterilize equipment.
Provides health teaching for take home medications, care of the newborn, and their follow-up check up.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Computer Literate and operates equipment used in the Eye Center, Medical- Surgical Unit, NICU,
Well-versed in oral and written English and Filipino
