  • Appointed in November 2018, by H.E. Chairperson of AU Commission as AU Commissioner General (CG) for Expo 2020 Dubai. As CG Expo Dubai, proceeded with creation of Vision on how AU participation at Expo could be executed by involving all the African Union stakeholders. The aim remains to promote Africa as a continent that speaks with one voice.
  • Currently, the Expo has commenced and AU is on ground at Expo under the leadership of the Commissioner General and already attracting high attention of the public.
  • African Union is at the Expo to tell the African story in the best manner and showcase to the world that Africa is ready and open for business, and one that is a secure destination for investment.
  • As the Commissioner General, has continuously:
  • Managed the workforce on ground, maintained excellent attendance record, consistently arriving to work on time and conducting visitors through the tour of the Pavilion
  • Handle 20 calls per day at minimum, to address inquiries of prospective visitors and appointment for high level officials.
  • Create schedules of engagement with other Commissioners General from other participating Organizations and African countries, plan and communicate daily and weekly engagements to ensure the African story in disseminated effectively, efficiently and to the target audience
  • So far in the course of the Expo, have had Live Interviews with Newzroom Afrika, a Multichoice broadcaster, Abu Dhabi TV, Dubai TV, Twitch, etc. detailing the AU Participation at the Expo as well as highlighting some of the key spotlight events the African Union will be hosting throughout the six-month long event:
  • Had an interview with the British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC), speaking on some of the plans by the African Union for the Expo 2020 in Dubai. Spoke on the spotlight events as well as desired outcomes at the end of the Expo.
  • Had media interviews with Arab Newspaper, Al Khallej - speaking about the relationship between the GCC and the African Union as well as cooperation for more economic activities between the two regions;
  • Participated at the Expo 2020 World Press Briefing, broadcast across the GCC and the Global Media networks as per Expo feed. Had Interviews with Dubai TV, Gulf News, Arab Newspaper - spoke on Agenda 2063, investment opportunities and the greater good for Africa to be at the Expo 2020 in Dubai;
  • And have received at the AU Pavilion various world leaders and several of International Chambers of Commerce seeking to establish business engagements with Africa.
  • Participated in continuous improvement by generating suggestions, engaging in problem-solving activities to support teamwork of all Pavilion staff.
  • Maintained constant debriefing to the African Union leadership back in Ethiopia and receiving guidance as necessary
