I. Patients' Care
A. Build trusting and caring relationships with all patients.
B. Always observe patient's confidentiality.
C. Have an excellent listening skill and a calm, empathic approach to patients.
Before undergoing treatment:
- Take vital signs to patients before any dental procedure, especially those with certain medical conditions such as hypertension.
- Checking random blood sugar (using glucometer) for patients with Diabetes Mellitus.
- Assess patients for any medication and food allergies prior to all dental surgeries such as surgical tooth extraction, dental implant, and root canal treatment.
During the procedure:
- Maintain impeccable standards of hand hygiene and infection control according to center's protocol.
- Always monitor for aspiration precautions, especially for patients with conditions such as, but not limited to patients with Down Syndrome, elderly and children receiving nitrous oxide.
- Monitoring oxygen level for children receiving Nitrous oxide.
- Respond immediately to any dental emergencies like syncope.
After the procedure:
- Follow up with patients 24 hours after any dental surgeries and other major procedures.
- Reinforce oral health teaching with patients after each dental procedure.
- Monitor and follow up patients' appointments.
II. Other Responsibilities
- Monitor the stock of dental materials in the assigned dental treatment room.
- Communicate with the suppliers for the materials needed to be purchased.
- Coordinate with the laboratory regarding the timely dispatch and receipt of work.
- Proper documentation using basic technical skills like Microsoft word and Excel.
- Good organizational and communication skills for proper endorsement of task to the next assigned dental assistant.
