My name is Marianne Sonia, but everyone calls me Mia.
I am personable, curious, enthusiastic, and have strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills. Although my career began in PR, I've found my strengths have allowed me to naturally settle into a role focused on team and account management, as my strengths lie within people and my appreciation for relationships. I am naturally very structured and organised, and this has translated well into my career.
I joined H+K as an Account Executive and I am now an Account Manager.
I work on an average of three retainer accounts and two projects at a time. My clients and projects include AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Etihad Rail, Abu Dhabi Ports, The HOPE Consortium, the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority (ECA), SEHA, Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT), and many more. I am also working to help members of our executive leadership team set up our H+K Academy to upskill members across the agency in the UAE and KSA, and I enjoy delivering media training and public speaking sessions.
My role focuses on account management and client relations, where I oversee my team internally and ensure all work is delivered on time and at the highest standard. On accounts including Etihad Rail and ADPorts, I was pulled in on existing retainers to help whip the account back into shape and mend client relations. The skills I utilise the most here are my interpersonal and organisational skills, accountability, and attention to detail. I am also a strong content writer, project manager, and have strong media relations skills.
In my entry-level role, I joined asda'a bcw's finance practice as an account executive. Through this role, I was managing account activities, tracking deliverables, working on reporting, and developing and maintaining strong relationships with the media. I also had the opportunity to work on new business opportunities, prepare research notes and briefing documents, and partake in trainings. My clients were predominantly in the finance and legal space, including Visa Middle East, SHUAA Capital & Abu Dhabi Financial Group (pre, during, post de-merger), DIFC Courts, AxiTrader, and more.
I was also part of a dedicated team that worked alongside Bloomberg on a project called the “New Voices Initiative”, media training women executives in the finance and technology to strengthen their profiles and improve the diversity of spokespeople speaking on top-level financial news channels.
During my final semester of university, I took on an internship at the UAE's oldest investment bank, working under the head of corporate communications and investor relations. Through this, I drafted content including news releases, media alerts, and fact sheets. I also developed daily investor update e-mailers, supported on agency requests (working with bcw, who eventually hired me full-time following the completion of my internship), and marketing + internal communications tasks.
