I joined IUKL with a passion for accounting and a desire to learn from a diverse range of cultures and perspectives. Since beginning my studies in accounting, I have been immersed in a world of numbers, calculations, and financial analysis, and I am continuously motivated to enhance my knowledge and skills
I had the priceless chance to embark on an enriching industrial training experience at Protasco Development Sdn Bhd as part of the academic requirements for the Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) program at Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur. This industrial training has given me a platform to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world settings, which has helped me better grasp the dynamic subject of finance and accounting, and here are some of the tasks that have been assigned to me:
1. Assisting with Bookkeeping:
By recording daily transactions, updating general ledgers, and reconciling accounts in the D365 system, I performed a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records. This responsibility was for keeping the company's financial data up-to-date and organized.
2. Invoice and Payment Processing:
I helped in the processing of supplier invoices and employee expense claims. This included reviewing supporting papers, generating payment vouchers, and ensuring timely payments, all of which contributed to the effective management of cash flow.
3. Accounts Receivable and Payable Support:
I actively monitored and managed accounts receivable and payable. I swiftly pursued overdue payments and ensured that the company's financial obligations were met on schedule.
4. Data Entry and Documentation:
I maintained a high level of precision in financial data management by ensuring accurate data entry into the company's accounting software. I also structured and kept correct documentation for future reference.
During my second-last year of studying accounting, I had the opportunity to work at a Burger Stall that was facing a lot of financial issues, to solve these issues, I had to do the following:
1. Record all expenses and sales on an Excel sheet to figure out the revenue.
2. Ask for all invoices and receipts related to the business.
3. After further research on the business, it turned out that bookkeeping was substandard and inefficient, as it was done solely in Excel.
4. Start a new recording system via QuickBooks, to make all transactions presentable and easy to track.
My first job as an accountant was with my friends, who decided to open a Satay booth, Indonesian food. The business was not making a noticeable profit, leading them to contact me. After I had analyzed profits, expenses, and customer behavior, I found the following:
1. The Satay booth was located on a pavement near a traffic light, and most of the customers were lower-middle-class people looking for affordable food.
2- The costs of cooking the desired food for customers were prohibitively expensive.
3. After applying an activity-based costing approach for each unit being used in the cooking process, I had to eliminate some of the expenses that were not necessary to make the desired food and use the money for advertising and giving free samples to pedestrians.
Around the age of 14, I got the chance to work at the Future shop, where I was responsible for formatting and repairing computers, before that, I liked to do all kinds of experiments on my family's PCs which gave me a rich knowledge about computers and its hardware and software.
