Joined the newly formed Asset Integrity Management team (AIM) at ZOHR gas field, I was responsible to provide expert advice to operations divisions on work programs related to cathodic protection; internal corrosion monitoring; materials selection/specification; failure analysis; paint specifications; materials preservation and other related corrosion inspection programs, and delivering of continuous improvement of integrity management systems

Duties & Responsibilities:

Material selection & Corrosion Control and Monitoring:

• Selecting/designing chemical treatment systems, reviewing and monitoring chemical deployment and performances
• Led corrosion team (internal corrosion control members) and reviewed their activities that ensure that injection regime for chemical treatments like corrosion inhibitors, biocides, and oxygen scavengers, is maintained during operational phase
• Liaise with laboratory to collect and analyze sampling testing
• Defect assessment; anomaly management; developing/updating risk-based inspection RBI programs; management of corrosion control matrices /integrity management databases
• Material selection to suit environment requirements based on NACE MR 0175/ISO 15156 and NACE MR0103 requirements
• Planning of annual corrosion monitoring program
• Preparing complete plan/road map for chemical injection/sampling & fluid analysis, sampling of fluids and deposits for MIC
• Develop, maintain, and optimize On-Stream Inspection (OSI) programs for facilities
• Support facilities improvement by reviewing design packages to maintain potential and new projects and providing comments related to corrosion monitoring, and corrosion mitigation plans including but not limited to material selection, installation of corrosion monitoring systems (CMS), chemical treatment, corrosion risk management, and OSI

Cathodic Protection:

• Led the corrosion team (CP members) to oversee the implementation of the site-wide CP installation; this covers the firewater ring main, tank bottom protection, and the offshore & onshore sections of the pipelines
• Update Inspection Management System records and review/ update procedures related to CP system to ensure efficiency and timely completion of assignments

Paintings, Coatings, and insulations:

• Led corrosion team (coating inspection members) who are responsible for acceptance of internal, and external paint and insulation applied to vessels and pipework during installation and handover stage of project
• Developing inspection test plan and selecting proper tests to verify painting quality
• Identified critical insulation systems and priories their inspection

Vendors & contractors Assessments:

• Interface with design engineers, manufacturers, and fabrication contractors to ensure best practices and specifications are applied to all stages of engineering projects
• During startup phase of ZOHR project, was involved in selection process for contract award of chemical supply contract, completed document reviews of previous work history, and carried out assessment visits to their facilities
• During operations, phase continued to supervise vendor’s activities and to continually assess their performance against company’s expectations.
• Participates in selection of inspection contractors by evaluating bids and recommending most suitable contractors, as appropriate.
• Reviewed supplier proposals and materials and provided ongoing monitoring to maintain consistent supplies.

• Corrosion Monitoring Team has 9 trainees in various stages of “On the Job Training” OJT, I’m responsible for day-to-day supervision, ongoing mentoring, and initial competency assessments.

Corrosion Monitoring and Control:

• Conduct corrosion surveys, assessments, and audits related to wet crude damage mechanisms such as HIC, localized, and general corrosion
• Monitors and evaluates all corrosion monitoring/ protection activities through spot checks, examination of log data, and verbal reports
• Ensures that corrosion levels remain within company’s specification acceptable levels and recommends appropriate corrosion control
• Lead and participate in incident investigations related to corrosion and damage and identify/track RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and Failure analysis including field and laboratory (metallography) investigations including sample preservation, and recommends necessary corrective actions including modifications to existing corrosion control programs, corrosion monitoring programs, inspection programs, or material selection guidelines, as required
• Internal and external pipeline corrosion investigation and integrity assessment (ICDA & ECDA)
• In accordance with NACE wet gas internal corrosion direct assessment (NACE WG-ICDA SP0110)
• Supporting development and execution of fixed equipment asset strategies utilizing Risk-Based Inspection analysis per API 580 and API 581
• Supporting Fitness for Service Assessments
• Preparation of standard corrosion control/inspection contract framework
• Analyze, and interpret corrosion coupons, ER probes data, and calculate corrosion rate
• Determine different corrosion forms and damage mechanisms in oil & gas production and refinery equipment

Cathodic Protection:

• Provide technical expertise, supervise and perform routine maintenance, installation, repair, and adjustment on cathodic protection system to ensure availability and safe operations
• Responsible for complex CP troubleshooting activities and generation of appropriate maintenance and remediation orders
• Responsible for timely creation of remediation work orders (i.e Install anodes, clear short, install insulator, repair / replace test station)
• Follows through with necessary departments to ensure timely completion
• Provide technical support for development, implementation, and commissioning of new projects in cathodic protection installation to optimize costs and ensure compliance with applicable standards and best practices
• Fieldwork consists of soil resistivity testing, structure potentials, right-of-way evaluations, and constructability assessments for AC mitigation and cathodic protection systems
• Plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in assigned area to meet functional objectives
• Train and develop assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on job and deliver respective section objectives

Chemical Treatment:

• Chemical injection system management including inhibitor and biocides efficiency monitoring
• Provide corrosion and other chemical engineering input to design of new projects and standardization and selection of equipment, parts, and components

Painting and Coatings:

• To check and monitor all surface preparation/painting / coating-related works and ensure all final products meet in accordance with company procedure and international codes
• Painting/coating inspection of onshore and offshore steel structural works, tanks pipeline, pressure vessels, and vessels.

• Worked on various projects in and around Port Said, most notably Port Said Petrochemical construction project and Air Liquid and TCI-SANMAR and ALSHABAB gas turbines project, where I was part of on-site Quality Management Team

Inspection planning:

• Developed inspection plans for inspection engineers that detailed activities required to complete examinations successfully, level and detail of reporting requirements, standard and specifications to be used, and NDT methodology
• Typical: ASME IX, V, ASME VIII Dev.1, II, ASME B31.3, AWS D1.1 & AWS A5 series for filler metals
• Responsible for completing inspection activities of installation, commissioning, and testing of process pipework and vessels, in accordance with company and international standards and specifications
• Part of this responsibility is Supervision and preparation for leak test, Nitrogen purging and Pneumatic test for equipment and piping and flushing, and reinstatement
• Witness hydrostatic tests and pneumatic tests on pressure equipment, valves, and pipelines as per Company policy
• Structural Steel Inspection:
• Carried out inspections of erection and completion of structural steelwork including pipe racks, large and small pipe supports, concrete foundations, and vessel installation

Pipework:

• As work progressed on different projects responsibilities included pipework installation, welder qualifications, WPS (welding procedure specifications) reviews, and inspection and acceptance/ rejection of welded joints

Welding Inspection:

• Responsible for all activities relating to welding inspection and welder testing; completed visual inspection of welds assigned relevant NDT requirements, and supervised NDT activities on site.
