Performed Duties and Achievements:
Down Syndrome Awareness Campaign
Abu Dhabi, February 2019-2020
In February 2019, my team and I spearheaded a comprehensive Down Syndrome awareness campaign at the School of Choueifat, reaching 600 students across both middle and high school. The initiative aimed to address common misconceptions and foster a deeper understanding of Down Syndrome through engaging presentations and interactive discussions. We also distributed informative flyers to reinforce key messages.
The success of the campaign was evident as students shared their newfound understanding and appreciation, with many expressing personal connections to individuals with Down Syndrome. This experience held particular significance for me, as I have a personal connection through my sister, Coco.
Representing an underrepresented group within the community not only allowed me to educate others but also helped many embrace individuals with Down Syndrome, dispelling harmful stereotypes and challenging prejudices. By giving a voice to this often marginalized group, we created an environment of acceptance and empathy, encouraging others to view them through a lens of respect rather than stigma. This experience reinforced my unwavering commitment to advocating for people of determination, and I will always continue to champion their rights and visibility within society.
Anti-Bullying Marathon
Abu Dhabi, September 2019 – February 2020
Despite various initiatives aimed at fostering a more inclusive and respectful school environment—such as the creation of informative posters, classroom sessions, and group discussions—the issue of bullying and aggression between primary and secondary school students persisted. However, the Anti-Bullying Marathon emerged as a pivotal solution to this ongoing challenge.
We came to understand that much of the bullying stemmed from pent-up energy, which was redirected through a friendly and unifying event—a marathon. The initiative provided an outlet for students to channel their energy in a positive, engaging way, fostering camaraderie and empathy. Following the campaign, teachers observed a remarkable 11% decrease in reported instances of bullying, illustrating the effectiveness of this creative approach.
The success of the Anti-Bullying Marathon not only underscores the power of community-driven, innovative solutions but also highlights the lasting impact of this event. In fact, the school continues to proudly host this marathon five years after my graduation, cementing it as a cherished tradition.
Through this experience, I developed essential leadership and delegation skills, learning to inspire and organize a team to create lasting change. This transformative initiative has left an indelible mark on me, deepening my commitment to promoting kindness, inclusivity, and respect in any community I am a part of.
