Funded the building of a well in Benin
Worked on inventory, and sorted out job applications based on the requirements, whilst a head nurse monitored me. Watched how equipment was sterilised and repackaged for next use.
Wrote my own research paper, titled "What is the role of Neuroplasticity-based interventions in slowing down cognitive decline in early-stage Alzheimer’s disease?". Developed research and citation skills, as well as paraphrasing skills.
Took part in this challenge in a team of 5, and placed in the top 12 out of 190 teams.
Completed summer school, studying medicine led by Dr. Fazlur Talukdar, PhD, who specialised in cancer genomics and clinical diagnostics. Our lessons expanded my knowledge on epigenetics, cancer and proteins. Develop teamwork skills as teams worked together to research and create arguments on medical debates. Researched and developed a comprehensive project based on the cancer selection of our choice.
Shadowed doctors from many various careers such as periop, pain clinic, neuro diagnostics and pulmonary functions.Witnessed patient consultations and learned treatment methodologies. Engaged with different medical machines and how to use them, such as peripheral needle stimulation, where the doctor had to insert a needle just below the skin and stimulate electrical impulses to the nerves.
Collaborated with peers for final project, addressing global conflict themes. Learnt types and styles of leaders and leadership skills such as public and persuasive speaking. Participated in debates to enhance critical thinking and develop logical arguments.
Engaged with children from disadvantaged backgrounds during a school trip to Kathmandu, Nepal.
