Senior Vice President

The Els Club Malaysia

  • Responsibilities and Key Achievements: The Senior Vice President was responsible for the entire Els Club Malaysia portfolio, which included 72 holes of golf, three Clubhouses, an Academy Building (Els Performance Golf Academy), and a Sales and marketing team based in our Corporate Offices in Kuala Lumpur
  • Key member of the pre-opening team at The Els Club Malaysia, Teluk Datai in Langkawi (opened 2014), Desaru Coast – Ocean Course opened in 2016, and The Valley Course opened in early 2017, which included setting up all systems
  • Ordering and receiving all FFE, golf course furniture, and golf course equipment, assisted with setting up all clubhouse, computer hardware, and software programs from tee sheet to POS systems
  • The three clubs were vastly different in terms of business strategies
  • Two were daily fee resort courses, and one, The Valley Course designed by Vijay Singh, is a Private Member facility
  • Responsible for creating and implementing all policies and procedures
  • Leading and overseeing a team of Associates at four different properties: the Corporate Office in Kuala Lumpur, Teluk Datai, Ocean Course, and Valley Course.

  • Responsibilities and Key Achievements: A club with over 1,000 Members, overseeing a team of 225 Associates, collaborating closely with an executive team, ensuring all club areas work harmoniously through transparent communication, empowerment, and accountability techniques
  • Having attended the very first Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in 2006, I joined the team full-time at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in 2007 as a supporting team member
  • We collaborated with all key stakeholders to grow the event year over year, and in 2011, the event became the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship; this is when the event became an international 2015 yielded record financial results for Abu Dhabi Golf Club, with top-line revenue exceeding prior year numbers by USD 725K or 6% and exceeded budgeted GOP by USD 282K or 15%
  • ADGC implemented other revenue streams such as music events, go-kart racing around the cart path, kid’s pool parties, all of which contributed to a record budget year – key highlights include: 2014 to 2015 – Total revenue grew by USD 725K or 6% compared to the previous year’s operating result
  • 2014 to 2015 – USD 282K or 15% improvement in budgeted GOP
  • Associate Satisfaction improved in all areas of the facility.

Saadiyat Beach Golf Club

  • Responsibilities and Key Achievements: I was a key member of the pre-opening team at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, which included setting up all systems
  • Ordering and receiving all FFE, golf course furniture, golf course equipment, assisted with setting up all clubhouse computer hardware and software programs from tee sheet to POS systems
  • Worked closely with TCA Abu Dhabi and GiAD (Golf in Abu Dhabi) to grow the region with golf tourism, achieving enormous success with YOY growth in hotel, golf, and retail revenues
  • Part of the team that hosted 2 Gary Player Invitational events – Saadiyat Beach Classic
  • Lau Sports Awards Multiple HSBC Golf Days Player activations working with all the major global brands
  • Starwood Preferred Guest - Magic Moments Golf Days 2011 to 2013 – 153% increase in rounds from to 40,965
  • 2011 to 2013 – 141% increase in total revenue from 2011
  • 2011 to 2013 – 133% increase in F&B covers to 46,338
  • 2011 to 2013 – 407% improvement in GOP
  • Associate Satisfaction reached 98.7% at the end of 2013, a record high for Troon.

  • Responsibilities and Key Achievements: The 18-hole championship golf course is part of Al Hamra Village
  • This fully integrated destination incorporates five hotels, including the Waldorf Astoria and Ritz Carlton, along with two White Label Properties managed by Deutsche Hospitality
  • The fifth hotel is being rebranded from the Hilton Al Hamra Beach and Golf Resort to become a Sofitel by the end of 2023
  • The development includes approximately 4,000 residential units, a marina, multiple food and beverage outlets, and other leisure amenities
  • The remit was to achieve operational sustainability - Al Hamra Golf Club is an established facility originally opened in 2007 - Troon International took over complete operations management in late 2017, following several years of declining financial performance
  • Drive international tourism from key source markets, mainly the UK, Germany, and Scandinavia
  • Domestic stay and play packages looking to drive business from our neighboring Emirates, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, providing us with the most business
  • The team generated year-over-year revenue growth in 2019, halting several years of decline
  • Improving 2019 GOP performance by 112% or USD 1M compared to 2018 operating results and 115% or USD 1.3M compared to 2017, generating a positive owner’s return for the first time in the club’s history
  • During 2019, the focus was on driving revenues, creating new initiatives and relationships to drive footfall to the destination, and generating new sources of food, beverage, leisure, and room revenues
  • Considerably enhanced the property working with funds generated from our operating P&L
  • 2020 saw a slight shift in philosophy due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • We focused on the domestic market to mitigate losses from international business
  • This proved extremely successful, and we are looking to maintain this market through refocused marketing efforts
  • In 2022 and 2023, we have seen a return to normality in the tourism sector, although we must be more creative in an aggressive market
  • Through these enhancements, Al Hamra Golf Club has been selected to host a new DP World Tour event: Ras Al Khaimah Challenge 2022
  • It ended up hosting back-to-back events while remaining profitable.
