APAC Terminal Advisor/Digital Transformation Lead

One of the two Marine Terminal Advisors in the Asia-Pacific region tasked with providing Marine Functional Expertise to ALL of Chevron's owned and/or operated Marine Terminals in the Asia-Pacific region.

The job involved being the Marine Subject Matter Expert for a total of 13 Terminals spread across the region (Japan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore).

During my time spent in the Transport & Operations group, I was the second highest ranking official in the Marine facility and the highest ranking Shipping official in the group.
The impact of my work in the group has led to
1) Increased knowledge and awareness of Marine Operations which resulted in faster turnarounds, reduced incidents impacting safe operations and enhanced stock control - the dollar value assigned to these efficiencies can be in the range of SGD 1-2 million.
2) By proactively carrying out asset condition study - I was able to influence the leadership to accelerate high capital facility enhancements such as renewal of fenders (SGD 2 million), overhaul of mooring equipment (SGD 100,00) and cargo pipelines (SGD 100,000-200,000).
3) The outcome of all the multiple measures was an increased awareness and knowledge around the Shipping/Marine process.
4) The engineering team got trained on carrying out Marine Asset condition assessments and better plan budgets and optimize facility downtime to carry out planned maintenance.
5) Eventually a dedicated division was formed for all Marine Terminal activities for Marine Operations tasked with managing safe operations at all Chevron Owned/Operated facilities.

Lead Marine Vetting Specialist/Agile Product Owner

Marine Vetting Specialists are a part of a Global Team of Marine Subject Matter Experts located across Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific to provide round the clock coverage with the goal of facilitating incident-free Marine Transportation of tankers hired to carry Chevron Hydrocarbon (Oil and Gas) cargoes. This was achieved by carrying out process based risk assessment of each individual tank vessel asset proposed for single, short-term or long term hire.

My role involved leading a team of 3 other Marine Vetting Specialists to ensure support to all our customers in the Asia-Pacific region (Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea and Japan).

1) Managed the Global Marine Vetting Process in the Asia-Pacific region by developing deep and wide knowledge of the process to be able to adapt it to include regional vagaries of the trade.
2) Lead a group of Marine Vetting Specialists in the Asia-Pacific region supporting a wide variety of customers based across the region (Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea and Japan) - was the focal point of contact for all matters pertaining to Clearance and Vetting of Tankers being considered for Chevron Hydrocarbon cargoes (Oil and Gas).
3) Trained, mentored and monitored a total of FIVE team members to ensure a robust succession plan, coverage continuity and uniform interpretation and implementation of the process in the region.
4) Regional Representative for the Global Optimization and Alignment of the Marine Vetting Process to ensure that it covered the evolving nature of the trade thus ensuring corporate assets were not exposed to new risks.
5) Was a part of the Project to upgrade and replace our software tool from the outset (impact USD 3 million). Deeply involved in scoping the project, vendor solicitation and selection (RFI, RFQ stages).
6) Worked with the IT and Vendors to develop backend software architecture and algorithms to develop a rules based vessel assessment system.
7) Led the Third Party UI/UX team to develop an easy to use front-end system that was ergonomic and easy to use.
8) Managed (with other team members) our database system to optimal business performance.
9) Worked withe customers to identify issues and developed possible outcomes associated with the Clearance and Vetting process.
10) Lead in ensuring a smooth customer feedback process and took necessary steps to ensure any feedback requiring attention was actioned in persistent manner ensuring high instances of customer satisfaction.

Managerial Roles

1) I was the Lead Process Manager for the Team's process in the Asia-Pacific region. Along with my colleagues in London and Houston, my role was to continuously review and optimize our processes and tools to ensure maximum global alignment and swift turnarounds without compromising the asset or the corporation.
2) I used to represent my team with my supervisor in to the Regional Business Units in an effort to understand their needs, constraints and requirements and offer robust, realistic solutions that lead to business continuity and protected our revenue and cash flow streams.
3) I was recognized at the highest levels of my Workgroup (Global GM) as an accomplished leader in the field of Clearance and Vetting and have many Rewards and Recognition from varying business units within the corporation.

4) Led a project team that analysed fuel consumption across routes and vessel sizes and developed a comprehensive fuel savings plan that resulted in an effective cost saving ofUS$ 2-3 million.

5) Ensured managed vessels remained in compliance with all local and international regulations by maintaining up to date certification and inspection regime.

6) Managed crew competency and training requirements to ensure that vessels were manned by the right people possessing adequate skills and experience to safely man the vessels.

7) Analysed post voyage costs to explore areas of potential savings both in terms of time, resources and expenses at no time compromising on safe and efficient operations.
