Educational Leadership:

  • Maintain educational leadership among the school staff and the teachers in the department at all times and ensures that the department is operating effectively in the context of the School 'Improvement Plan in line with school mission, vision and philosophy.
  • Develop and implement innovative policies and practices in the department which reflect the school’s commitment to high student achievement through effective teaching and learning in strong coordination with the direct line manager.
  • Implement school initiatives related to academics as indicated in the school improvement plan and ensure successful completion of the targeted key performance indicators. Review and revised strategies therein whenever needed to meet the target goal(s) and measures of success of the academic year.
  • Prepare, implement, evaluate and improve / enhance department action plans in correlation to the school’s improvement plan and submit them to the Academic Supervisor for approval. Prepares weekly tasks and weekly report and submits them on time.
  • Compile, maintain and file physical documents and computerized reports, records and other documents required. Keep portfolio documenting evidence of department effective operations and department action plan progress.
  • Promote, develop, and evaluate the impact of technology enhanced learning on the student learning experience. Advise new program developments on pedagogic value of new technologies.


Instructional and Program Management:

  • Coordinate the review, development and revision of all subject area programs and related curriculum documents and materials including worksheets, booklets, unit maps / yearly plans, learning syllabus, weekly and lesson plans.
  • Work cooperatively with curriculum and instructional staff along with the Academic Supervisor in developing and supervising the instructional programs in assigned subject area.
  • Ensure proper use of instructional materials (copy books, textbooks, booklets, worksheets) and tools (TV, Interactive panel boards, tablets, and the like) for the assigned subject areas.
  • Monitor and take ownership and accountability related to the attainment and progress of all the students and be aware and monitor progress of high achievers/talented /gifted students / low achievers etc. and evaluate the effects of teaching and learning by working alongside with colleagues, analyzing the work of both students and teachers as well as measuring outcomes.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data, results of standardized assessments) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for the assigned subject area.
  • Ensure the implementation of the school assessment policy. Improve / approve question papers for assessments (including quizzes and end of the term tests) and revision sheets and ensure that they are valid tests and conformed to the prescribed format.
  • Assess the performance of the students in a random manner focusing on the pre-requisite skills based on standards (e.g. Mental Math skills and problem solving skills in Mathematics) etc.
  • Ensure that substitute teachers are able to cover lessons designated for the day and are able productively to handle the class. Prepare a list of substitution for absent teachers in the department and hand over to the section coordinators.
  • Recommend to the Principal and Vice Principal through the Academic Supervisor curricular changes, purchase of books and periodicals, platforms, supplies and equipment of the department.


Staff Hiring and Development:

  • Conduct interviews and recommend teacher applicants for the available position under his/her unit and suggest teachers for the academic year upon approval of the Vice Principal.
  • Provide comprehensive and effective professional development to enhance teacher effectiveness in designated subject area.
  • Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Provides evaluative reports for every teacher as indicated in the teacher appraisal system (formative and summative evaluation ratings).


Others:

  • Assist in communicating information to parent and community members about school programs.
  • Arrange substitution classes to operate instructional program of absent staff.
