I am an innovative, fast-learning and detail orientated Fashion Marketing and Promotion graduate who currently works in buying for Harvey Nichols Dubai and Bloomingdales Dubai/ Kuwait. Having worked full-time for a smaller Demi-Couture brand based in London and a corporate company such as Al Tayer (owners of Harvey Nichols and Bloomingdales in the Middle East) I have become adaptable and absorbed skills appropriate for most working environments, be it being part of a small, intimate team or a larger, set hierarchy team. I pride myself on the exposure I have had of cultures and other nationalities both in London and Dubai, allowing me to adapt and keep an open mind when working as a team or speaking to suppliers around the world.
As a Buyer's Assistant, I report to the Buyer of the department I work in, being Women's Handbags and Accessories, Head Buyer and Supply Chain Manager. My job entails the below:
- Ensuring timely entering of all seasonal orders, to meet requested deadlines. In addition, checking and providing overviews/ summaries of all orders placed.
- Coordinating shipments with suppliers and Al Tayer (Harvey Nichols and Bloomingdales Dubai/Kuwait) logistics to ensure timely deliveries.
- Update delivery schedule and communicate to the buyers and planners on a weekly basis.
- Validation of order confirmations against invoices and orders.
- Ensure all necessary records, files and databases are maintained accurately and updated in a timely manner.
- Generally assisting Buyer in the process of getting stock from supplier to the shop floor.
I worked as Personal Assistant to the owner and Creative Director of a demi-couture fashion brand based in London, Safiyaa Ltd, for two and a half years. The brand have become well-known for dressing the likes of Meghan Markle, Michelle Obama, Gillian Anderson, Priyanka Chopra and many more celebrities. Having worked at Safiyaa through the transition of growth in a short period of time I learnt how to work in a fast pace and high pressure environment. My job entailed the below:
- Assisting owner and Creative Director in admin in finance, fabric selection and private event coordination.
- Assisting the E-commerce Manager on e-com and lookbook photoshoots.
- Working on the showroom floor in sales .
- Traveled to Monaco and Paris for trunk shows and private client events twice a year.
- Showroom visual merchandising.
-Stock takes of stock and fabric in store, warehouse and atelier.
- Assisted in wholesale and private client order preparations.
As I wanted to understand more about the fashion industry and gain experience - I took up an interning role at Elevaete Activewear (Middle East). I worked for the owner and creative director, Tanvi Malik, on her startup brand that specialized in activewear bespoke for athletes who seek comfort in appropriate fabric. My role entailed the below:
- Assisting creative director in event preparation
- Retrieving design inspiration through moodboards (physical and digital)
- Fabric and pattern collating
In 2013, I spent two weeks as an intern at Cre8, a Dubai based Graphic Design company who have accounts with Emaar Developers. My role entailed the below:
- Assisting in photography
- Putting together contact sheets using Adobe programming applications such as InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop to edit and collate photographs, brochures and booklets.
- Assisting in marketing and administrative departments.
