  • Managed Middle East/East Africa region and created value for the Lafarge Group through effective buying and selling, problem solving, position taking and anticipating/mitigating operational & shipping risks.
  • Achieved traded volume of 4.1 million tons in 2014 of which 3.2 million tons were third party sales.
  • Secured critically needed 0.8 million tons of clinker within 5 months for Group company in Egypt amid acute energy shortage preventing operation of kilns, leveraging sources in Turkey, UAE and India while taking advantage of the situation by performing 1.2 million tons in third party sales for a total of 2 million tons constituting 1/3 of the total imports into Egypt that year.
  • Developed and managed floating terminal project in Libya in 2012 which created over 0.7 million tons in much needed export sales volume for Lafarge Group company in Greece in aftermath of Euro crisis and generated US$2m profit.
  • Increased volume by 0.8 million tons by trading new products such as gypsum and limestone from Oman to India and East Africa.
  • Conducted adequate technical assessment of suppliers , products, logistic and supply chains.

  • Negotiated with Group & Non-Group suppliers according to yearly budget annual buying/selling volume, purchasing/selling prices, product quality and contractual conditions.
  • Grew regional business through development of key sourcing and sales markets - Egypt, Turkey, Jordan, Sudan, Yemen, Eritrea, Djibouti/Ethiopia - and managed the Red Sea and Indian Ocean network of import terminals along with the fleet of pneumatic cement carriers that catered to them.
  • Drove negotiation and conclusion of very first export contract for 1 million tons of bulk cement out of Pakistan in 2007 amid acute global shortage, beating competition to these highly sought-after volumes.
  • Secured highly needed cement volumes for Group in Qatar where Lafarge operated its highest earning concrete ready-mix operation globally and supplied clinker to local plant and helped negotiate a toll grinding agreement allowing continued supply cement to Ready-mix Qatar.
  • Developed and established project to operate 2 floating import terminals in Djibouti to serve fast growing Ethiopian market reaching annual volume of 0.5 million tons with over US$3.3m in profits and securing outlet for much needed exports for Lafarge Group companies in Egypt and Pakistan following Orascom acquisition.
  • Managed operations and trade execution to ensure smooth operations (on time vessels, document issuance/distribution, laytime statements), and managed contract breaches and cargo claims.
  • Issued market regional reports, participated in strategic reviews and business development projects.
