Electrical Stimulation to improve GAIT pattern in 'Hemiplegia', 05/2021, Functional electrical stimulation has gain attention as a rehabilitative tool to manage foot drop and improve GAIT patterns. Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) involves the use of electrical impulses to stimulate muscles, nerves and promoting muscle contraction and movement In the context of foot drop, FES is typically used to stimulate the muscles responsible for 'dorsiflexion' which is lifting the foot and aid in walking and reducing tripping. FES can easily stimulate the effectiveness of 'Tibialis anterior muscle' as an alternative to 'Ankle foot orthosis.' FES can reduce compensatory movements such as hip-hiking. The effectiveness depends on proper calibration, consistent uses, and integration into comprehensive rehabilitation program.
