Job overview

  • Hired from London and flown to NZ, I played a key role in the early stages of earthquake recovery work and subsequent two years following the devastating Christchurch earthquakes
  • Successfully lead a team of 12 including 4 QS's, 4 estimators and 4 administrators as part of the 6.31b AED equivalent Christchurch emergency repair program
  • Project: Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT), the largest civil rebuild program in NZ history. I was hand-picked to join the team as part of the SCIRT alliance to reinstate the publicly owned horizontal infrastructure of Christchurch - 4.7b AED equivalent
  • As a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the alliance, I was responsible for achieving VFM within our commercial framework across dozens of simultaneous projects
  • During this role I worked closely with the Commercial Manager and gained valuable experience of large-scale Cost Forecasting, Earned Value Reporting and became familiar with the Financial Management Plan of a large, complex infrastructure program.

  • The largest of which was the 140m AED equivalent expansion of the City of Derry Airport Runway Safety Area and apron upgrades

  • My widely ranging duties included topographical, measurement and inspection surveys, CAD works and production of pilot designs, construction details and maps
  • Produced BOQs using Library of Standard Item Descriptions for Highway Works
  • Experience gained in the following Project Life Cycle Stages; Research, Preparation of Brief, Preparing and producing tender documents and drawings (client side), Appraisal of tenders, general works adherence, snagging
  • Involvement in the gathering and submission of planning applications to DOE planning
  • Dealt with contractors and liased with utility providers and government departments NIE, NIW and Planning
  • Attended periodic progress meetings with all stakeholders.
